Agent Bulldogg Interview
Without them SSS wouldn't exist, one of the reasons we became skins in the first place. Here's an interview with Thomas from the one and only, "Stockholms stolthet" Agent Bulldogg!
Hey Thomas, thanks a lot for agreeing to this interview! How have you been?
I’m alright mate.
I don’t think there will be many of them, but for those readers who don’t know, can you give a quick background on Agent Bulldogg?
We started out back in 1986, just to pass the time really. Me and Magnus had realized our football career had come to an end, so we decided to form a band and play some music instead. Originally we wanted to start a Ska band, but settled with punk rock. I’m now the only original member, but Jens who was in the band between 1988-1990 has been back since 2010, as has Robert. I think Thorbjörn joined about 2012, Arthur 2014 and Sacha around 2016. So we are a six piece band, but only 5 of us plays live.
You’ve been around for a long time now, how long do you plan on keeping going? Are there any thoughts about giving it up? (I hope not!).
No thoughts about giving it up yet. It’s still a laugh and we keep on as long as it is just that.
Relating to the last question, why do you think you’ve stayed so popular for so long?
I have no idea. I’d like to say it’s because we are true, but maybe because we are quite low key aswell. People don’t get tired of you when you are not in their face all the time.
Is there any plans for new material to be released soon? How about gigs, maybe a tour in the not so distant future?
Yes there is. We have a bunch of songs more or less ready for release, it’s just some bits to sort out. We have 2 gigs in Germany, and 1 in Poland planned for this year, and also 2 gigs for next year.
I know not long ago the re-press of “Ett Tusen Glas” was released, and it was received extremely well! It must have been cool to see one of your albums re-released, and especially to such a good reception?
Well, yes obviously. It’s a vinyl version of the CD Pike at Kjell Hell released some years ago. Great to see it properly released on vinyl aswell. It actually got really great reviews back in the 90’s aswell but of course it’s great to find and reach out to a new audience. It was actually released 30 years ago this year. Time flies.
The list of bands you’ve played with is long, are you able to pick a favourite from the past? Is there any bands playing today who you look at/listen to and think “it would be cool to play a show with them”?
Robert actually put together a list of the flyers from 2010 until now, and we really had a fortune to play with loads of great bands. Some of the greatest gigs may not necessarily be the biggest ones, but that said the gig we did with Cock Sparrer and Gatans Lag (great lads) in 2010 was really good. Out of the old line-up the gig we did with Toy Dolls stands out. They described us as a mix between Peter & The Test Tube Babies & 4-Skins which of course was a compliment.
A smaller gig we did which might been one of the best we’ve done so far was with Antipati and Bombardiers at the legendary Mondo Bizarro club in Rennes. That was really something else. The craziest might be an outdoors gig in Switzerland with one guy in a wheelchair doing a stage dive, among other things.
Thanks again mate for the interview, was great catching up and hope to see yousoon. Do you have any words you’d like to leave the readers with?
Don’t let anyone tell you how to live your life, and don’t trust anyone.
